CZ 85 is similar in design, general outline, features and operations to the famous CZ-75 pistol. The only differences are slide stop levers, completely ambidextrous safety catch, and a reversible magazine release button. CZ 85 firstly appeared in the mid-1980s and the production began probably in 1986. Original CZ 85 design was upgraded with integral firing pin block, along with the CZ-75B. It was manufactured in the former Czechoslovakia (now the Czech Republic). It is an updated version of the CZ 75, the most popular from all the pistols produced by CZ. CZ 85 has slight changes made to internal parts of the gun to increase reliability. It makes the pistol suitable for both right- and left-handed shooters. The magazine holds in this case up to 16 rounds. CZ 85 was developed because the CZ 75 had no patents protecting the design and features of this model and the CZ 75 was copied in other countries with unlicensed versions. The CZ 85 fits nicely in the hand and with its arched grip housing, points quite naturally. Its steel frame and slide add the necessary heft to the piece, and along with the standard checkered grip panels, they help to control recoil for follow-up shots what is really useful. The trigger has somewhat of a long reach to it on double action, but in single action it’s perfect for the average shooter as well. Trigger pull on single action went a crisp 51/2 pounds and with a moderate amount of slack, it was 12 pounds double action. The trigger can be adjusted for overtravel by means of a screw that is located at the upper part of the trigger itself.
